Fortnite, the popular online video game that has been played by millions of people around the world, is set to shut down in 2024. The game’s developer, Epic Games, announced the news on its official website, citing the need to focus on new projects and technologies.

Fortnite was launched in 2017 as a cooperative survival game, where players had to build forts and defend themselves from zombies. The game later added a free-to-play battle royale mode, where 100 players competed to be the last one standing on an ever-shrinking map. The game became a cultural phenomenon, attracting celebrities, streamers, and gamers of all ages. It also featured crossover events with popular franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, and Stranger Things.

However, the game also faced several challenges and controversies over the years. It was banned in some countries for being too violent or addictive. It was sued by several artists for allegedly copying their dance moves without permission. It was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store after Epic Games tried to bypass their payment systems. And it faced increasing competition from other games such as PUBG, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.

Fortnite Responds to Community

Epic Games said that it was grateful for the support and feedback from the Fortnite community and that it would continue to provide updates and events until the game’s closure in 2024. It also said that it would offer refunds for any unused V-Bucks, the game’s virtual currency and that it would transfer players’ accounts and progress to other Epic Games titles.

So what’s next for Fortnite fans? Well, there are still plenty of options to enjoy the game until it shuts down. They can play the game on different platforms such as PC, console, or mobile. They can join online tournaments and competitions to win prizes and glory. They can watch their favorite streamers and content creators on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube. And they can explore the creative mode, where they can design their own maps and modes using the game’s tools.

Moreover, there are also other games that offer similar or better experiences than Fortnite. Some of these games are:

  • Valorant: Valorant is a game that combines the elements of a first-person shooter and a hero-based game. It was developed by Riot Games, the same company that created League of Legends. Valorant is set in a near-future world, where different agents with unique abilities and backgrounds fight for control of a mysterious substance called Radianite. The game has two main modes: unrated and competitive. In both modes, two teams of five players each take turns to attack or defend a site, where a bomb-like device called the Spike must be planted or defused. The team that wins 13 rounds first wins the match. The game also has other modes, such as deathmatch, spike rush, and escalation, where players can practice their skills or try different weapons and abilities.
  • Counter-Strike 2: A video game that is the sequel to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, developed by Valve. It is a first-person shooter game that features new graphics, gameplay, and features. It was released on September 27, 2023, and is free to play on Steam.
  • Roblox: A massively multiplayer online game where players can create and play various games using Lego-like blocks. Roblox has over 40 million games in different genres such as adventure, role-playing, simulation, and more.
  • Minecraft: A sandbox game where players can build and explore a pixelated world made of blocks. Minecraft has multiple modes such as survival, creativity, adventure, and multiplayer. It also has a huge modding community that adds new features and content to the game.
  • Among Us: A social deduction game where players have to work together as crewmates on a spaceship and find the impostors who are trying to sabotage their mission. Among Us has become very popular during the pandemic, as it allows players to interact and have fun with their friends online.

Fortnite may be ending soon, but that doesn’t mean that its fans have to stop having fun. There are still many ways to enjoy the game and its legacy, as well as discover new games and communities that suit their tastes and preferences. Fortnite may be gone, but not forgotten.
