Helldivers 2 received another update this week, which addressed several issues reported by the community, but it also appears to have added a new one. Arrowhead Game Studios recognized a surge in crashes with players’ games freezing up on Wednesday not long after the update went live, but it wasn’t until Thursday when the problem was narrowed down to two separate Stratagems and one weapon which appear to be causing all these crashes. The Arc Thrower Stratagem, the Tesla Tower Stratagem, and the Arc Shotgun primary weapon are all troublesome, but a patch does not appear to be available until next week for Helldivers 2 players.

The problems with the crashes were originally noted on the game’s Discord server, with Arrowhead community manager Twinbeard stating that players were suffering “a lot of crashes” that were most likely caused by the Wednesday update. For anyone not in the Discord who wants to make sure it’s not just them having tonnes of crashes, here’s what was said:

“We know that many of you are experiencing a lot of crashes at the moment (seemingly linked to the patch deployed earlier today, which at least resolved the persistent friend request issue for a lot of players),” he stated. “As we speak, our staff is deep in the trenches investigating the issue. We are on alert and ready to provide updates on any developments here. We sincerely apologize to everyone for not being able to provide you with the magnificent sense of bug and bot stomping, and we hope to have the game more stable as soon as possible.”

On Thursday, fellow Arrowhead community manager Baskinator responded with another message saying that the issue had been identified. The good news was that the problem had been narrowed down to the Arc Thrower, Tesla Tower, and Arc Shotgun. The bad news was that a repair would not be available until next week. In the meantime, Helldivers 2 players are urged to avoid utilizing those three weaponry entirely, at least until the concerns are fixed.

“We have identified the cause of the freezes many players have been experiencing, and we’re in the process of building a patch to fix it that should be ready to deploy early next week,” Baskinator said on the game’s Discord channel. “In the interim, we recommend not using the Arc Thrower, Arc Shotgun, or Tesla Tower, as they appear to be tied to the problem. Thank you for your continuous patience.”

Some Helldivers 2 players have long supported lightning-based weapons such as the Arc Thrower and Tesla Tower Stratagems, and those players are likely to support the Arc Shotgun from the new Warbond as well, even if it turns out to be relatively unimpressive. These weapons were never particularly popular, however, due to the nature of the lightning arcs, which can easily injure colleagues, as well as the fact that their impacts are not as visually striking as something like an Autocannon shot. They saw an increase in popularity as a result of the new Warbond, which contained armor sets that were impervious to that type of damage, a perk that significantly mitigated the negative of friendly fire. With more people using them now, these crashes resulting from the last update have become all too common.
