Solo Levelling reveals a harsh truth about S-Class Hunters, particularly in terms of dungeons and the concept of survival of the fittest. Sung Jinwoo exercises this right when confronted with a kill-or-be-killed dilemma, because in expeditions, what happens in the dungeon stays in the dungeon, except for reports filed to the bureau later.

In episode 6 of the Solo Levelling anime or chapter 24 of the manhwa, hunter Hwang Dongsuk is killed during an expedition to a C-rank dungeon. Although the subsequent report contains the annihilation of the strike squad, hunters Sung Jinwoo and Yoo Jinho are free after some light questioning. However, this does not imply that the issue is completely resolved. The ultimate threat exists beyond the dungeon in the shape of S-Class hunter Hwang Dongsoo, Hwang Dongsuk’s younger brother.

Murder is merely part of the dark side of Solo Levelling. While survival of the fittest is the law in dungeons, it may also apply outside of them. Sung Jinwoo is an outlier in the system since he can level up, whereas other hunters cannot enhance their stats, resulting in their hierarchy with E-Class at the bottom and S-Class on top.

The horrific truth about S-Class hunters is revealed when Hwang Dongsoo seeks vengeance on the incident’s survivors. While he asks what the implications of his conduct would be if he murdered a hunter in another country, it is evident that he is solely concerned with posterity. The truth is that he would theoretically receive a minimal term, if any at all, despite the two potential legal repercussions of his actions. This dark fact is less established in the manhwa, whereas the anime vividly demonstrates how S-Class hunters are powerful enough to operate beyond the law.

This truth is highlighted multiple times throughout the manhwa, including when Woo Jinchul, the Chief Inspector of the Korean Hunter’s Association, tells Jinwoo to leave the nation for a while because S-Class hunter Dongsoo is about to enter Korea to exact his retribution. So, even though the Hunter’s Association is aware of Dongsoo’s intentions to visit the country, they have no method to limit his influence. Even when Jinchul picks up Dongsoo at the airport in Chapter 47, the S-Class hunter rhetorically insults the A-Class hunter, stating, “You?” “Stop me?” he asked, daring any authority to try to detain him.

While S-Class hunters have the ability to operate outside of the law, A-Class hunters may also do so. Chapter #52 of the Red Gate arc has S-Class guild masters Baek Yoonho of the White Tiger guild and Hwang Dongsoo of the Scavenger guild provoking each other. Woo Jinchul, an A-Class hunter, stops the two S-Class hunters before their fists meet, ultimately ending the battle. This demonstrates that persons in the A-Class may be able to operate outside of the law and compete with those in a higher class.
