Is Valorant New Agent Iso Overpowered for the Game? what is our take on this?
By: Hypron || Oct 21, 2023
Valorant, the popular tactical shooter game from Riot Games, is known for its diverse and dynamic roster of agents, each with its unique abilities and playstyles. However, some agents may seem more powerful than others, especially when they are newly introduced to the game. This is the case with Iso, the latest duelist agent who joined Valorant in Episode 7 Act 3.
Iso is a Chinese fixer-for-hire who has exceptional gun skills and can create bulletproof protection for himself. His abilities are as follows:
Iso Abilities
- Contingency ©: Iso can fire an indestructible wall of energy that blocks bullets and destroys itself after reaching the endpoint.
- Undercut (Q): Iso can throw a molecular bolt that can pass through walls and other solid objects to catch enemies behind obstacles. The bolt applies a brief fragile effect to all the enemies it touches, making them take more damage from other sources.
- Double Tap (E): Iso can activate his focus timer, which allows him to harvest energy orbs from enemies he downs or damages. Once these orbs are shot, Iso receives a shield that absorbs one instance of damage from any source.
- Kill Contract (X): Iso can throw a column of energy that teleports him and the first enemy hit by his ultimate into a 1v1 arena. The winner leaves the arena and the loser dies.
These abilities make Iso a formidable opponent who can survive and deal damage in almost any situation. He can block enemy fire with his wall, catch them off guard with his bolt, shield himself from lethal attacks, and challenge anyone to a duel. He seems to have an answer for everything, which may make him overpowered for the game.
Valorant Iso Limitations
However, there are also some drawbacks and limitations to Iso’s kit that balance him out. For instance:
- His wall has a limited range and duration and can be bypassed by abilities that go through or over it, such as Sova’s Recon Bolt, Jett’s Updraft, or Omen’s Shrouded Step.
- His bolt has a slow travel speed and a small radius, making it easy to dodge or avoid if the enemy is aware of it. It also does not deal any direct damage, only applying the fragile effect.
- His shield only lasts for a short time and only blocks one hit, regardless of how much damage it deals. It also requires him to kill or damage enemies and shoot their orbs, which may not always be possible or convenient.
- His ultimate has a long charge time and can be countered by abilities that reveal his location or prevent him from using it, such as Cypher’s Trapwire, Skye’s Guiding Light, or Killjoy’s Lockdown. It also puts him at risk of losing the duel and dying instantly.
Therefore, Iso is not necessarily overpowered for the game, but rather a high-risk high-reward agent who relies on his gunplay and timing to make the most of his abilities. He may seem unstoppable at first glance, but he also has weaknesses and counters that can be exploited by smart and coordinated players. He is a challenging and rewarding agent to play as or against, adding more depth and diversity to Valorant’s gameplay.
