In the world of competitive gaming, cheating is a serious offense that can result in a lifetime ban from tournaments and leagues. However, one of the most notorious cheaters in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) community, known as “Forsaken“, has recently had his ban lifted by the CS2 organization. This decision has sparked controversy and raised questions about the consequences of cheating in the gaming world.

CS2, the sequel to the popular first-person shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), has recently lifted the ban on one of the most infamous cheaters in the history of esports, Nikhil “forsaken” Kumawat. Forsaken was caught using a cheat program called “word.exe” during the eXTREMESLAND Asia Finals in 2018, which resulted in his disqualification and a five-year ban from all esports events sanctioned by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). His cheating scandal also caused the dissolution of his team, OpTic India, and tarnished the reputation of the Indian CS:GO scene.

After five years of exile, forsaken is free to return to competitive CS2, as his ESIC ban expired on October 24, 2023. However, his comeback is not guaranteed, as he still faces many challenges and obstacles. In this essay, I will discuss some factors that may influence Forsaken’s decision to resume his esports career.

The Infamous “Forsaken”

Forsaken, whose real name is Nikhil “Forsaken” Kumawat, gained notoriety in the CSGO community after being caught using cheats during a tournament in 2018. He was playing for the team OpTic India at the time and was caught by the tournament organizers using an aimbot, a type of cheat that automatically aims at opponents. This resulted in his immediate disqualification from the tournament and a lifetime ban from all future events organized by the Electronic Sports League (ESL).

The Consequences He Will Face if He Returns

In the wake of his cheating incident, Forsaken has been subject to much stigma and criticism from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS2) community. His actions have been widely condemned and reviled by fans and players alike, with some suggesting he should be prohibited from playing CS for the rest of his life or be subjected to physical violence. This has been further compounded by death threats and online harassment, leading to his resignation from social media and a period of virtual isolation. Despite the fact that it has been five years since the incident, it is likely that Forsaken will still face some degree of animosity and resentment from CS2 stakeholders, either in the form of forgiveness or a return to the game. For instance, the CEO of OpTic, H3CZ, has stated that if he had been in a similar situation, he would have acted differently.

Second, he needs to demonstrate that he is a legitimate and competent player, not one who relies on cheats and hacks. The cheating incident of Forsaken raised questions about his past accomplishments and performances, as he was also found to have used his “word.exe” cheat to win the 2018 ESL India Premiership Fall Final. This tarnished his reputation as a promising and talented player, and he was branded as a cheat and a villain. If he wants to come back to CS2, he needs to prove that he is a competent and competent player who does not take unfair advantages. He needs to restore his credibility and trust as a professional player and gain respect from his teammates and rivals.

Thirdly, Forsaken will need to find a team willing to hire him and give him an opportunity. Not only did Forsaken’s cheating incident affect him personally, but it also impacted his former teammates as well as the entire Indian CS:GO community. For instance, OpTic India dissolved its entire roster after Forsaken was caught cheating. Many Indian players lost their jobs and sponsorships due to this. Forsaken’s former teammates also spoke out against him, claiming that he destroyed their careers and aspirations. For instance, Vishal “haiVaan” Sharma said that Forsaken was “the worst mistake of my life”. Finding a new team might not be easy for Forsaken as many teams might not want to work with him or put their reputation on the line by hiring him. Forsaken might have to look for a team outside of India or start from the ground up with an unknown or amateur player.

The Fight Against Cheating

The CSGO community has been fighting against cheating for years, with developers constantly updating their anti-cheat systems and implementing stricter punishments for cheaters. However, cheating still remains a prevalent issue in the gaming world, with new hacks and cheats being developed all the time. This makes it even more important for organizations like CS2 to take a strong stance against cheating and uphold the integrity of competitive gaming.

The Future of Forsaken

While Forsaken’s ban may have been lifted, it is unlikely that he will be welcomed back into the CSGO community with open arms. Many players and organizations have expressed their disapproval of the decision and have stated that they will not be working with Forsaken in the future. This serves as a reminder that the consequences of cheating can extend beyond just a ban from tournaments.

Conclusion

To sum up, CS2’s decision to lift the ban on Forsaken doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be back in competitive gaming in the near future. There are still a lot of obstacles and issues that could prevent him from returning to esports. He still has to deal with the stigma and criticism from CS2 fans, prove that he’s a legit and competent player, and try to find a team willing to take a chance on him. Whether or not he does, it’s hard to say, but it’s clear that he still has a long way to go.
