It seemed just a matter of time, but Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive have reported that Grand Theft Auto V has already sold more than 150 million units worldwide. Over the last few years, GTA V sales have steadily increased toward this incredible milestone, which was finally reached today. What’s probably most perplexing about this new sales statistic is that it’s just likely to get higher later this year.

The confirmation of this 150 million unit number for Grand Theft Auto V was uncovered in a new slideshow issued by Take-Two. To date, it is estimated that the Grand Theft Auto series has sold over 350 million copies across all platforms and iterations. This indicates that GTA V alone accounts for around 42 percent of total franchise sales for Grand Theft Auto. Whatever way you slice it, what Rockstar Games has accomplished is mind-boggling.

As previously stated, the most ridiculous aspect of these GTA V sales is that they are unlikely to slow down very soon. Rockstar Games is planning to re-release the game on next-generation platforms later this year, which means that many fans will have to buy it all over again. Although it may have sounded ridiculous a few years ago, it appears that GTA V is on track to sell 200 million units in total in the future.

More specifically, the next-generation version of GTA V will be released on both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X later this fall on November 11. We haven’t seen much of this version of the game in action yet, but Rockstar will most likely demonstrate more in the coming months.

What do you think about these lifetime sales for GTA V?
