Anime: Tokyo Override Coming to Netflix
By: Mukesh Chaudhary || June 08, 2024
Netflix’s recent peek of its future animation slate featured popular brands including as Terminator, Tomb Raider, Arcane, and Spongebob Squarepants. Along with new projects in these famous franchises, the streaming service used the chance to announce new animation projects that would be released on the platform in the future. Tokyo Override, a futuristic motorcycle-based animated series, is one of Netflix’s most anticipated original series, and the streaming provider has released a first look.
CG animation in anime is nothing new, and while it is still debatable whether it can compete with 2-D animation, it does not appear that the computer-generated style will be going away very soon. Tokyo Override will be directed by two CG professionals, Yuske Fukada and Veerapatra Jinaavin. The pair had previously collaborated on the recent Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, which helped bring the final installment of the recent Rebuild of Evangelion film series to an end.
Tokyo Override First Look
Given the new anime’s usage of motorcycles, there will undoubtedly be some similarities to the iconic anime film Akira. While there is no official release date for Tokyo Override, it will be available on Netflix later this year. The streaming service did not release a video, but the new photographs below capture the spirit of this futuristic environment with some crazy colours that make it look like it belongs in the universe of Blade Runner or the anime film Redline.
Here’s how Netflix describes the original anime series that will appear later this year. “In an AI-optimized Tokyo 100 years in the future, an orphaned teenage hacker blends in until a favour for her only friend inadvertently draws her into a benevolent gang of outcast motorcyclists, exposing the seemingly utopian city’s sinister underbelly through a murder investigation linked to a drug syndicate. Yuske Fukada and Veerapatra Jinanavin direct the series, which is produced in partnership with YAMAHA MOTOR CO., LTD. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
