Win After Win: Optic Defeated XSET,Advance To Semi, Going To Face LOUD

Optic Gaming faced XSET in the upper bracket of VALORANT Champions Istanbul today, reenacting an age-old North American rivalry. The top two seeds from NA made it through the group stage at Champions and were now vying for a top-three finish at the year’s biggest event.

XSET made a strong start on Haven, winning key gunfights and taking out OpTic’s double-sentinel setup. XSET struggled to maintain the pressure they started with when the sides switched. As a result, XSET won only one round in the second half, while Optic dominated the map, winning 13-9. No one was surprised when yay was named Haven’s MVP, with a 1.64 K/D and 260 combat score on Chamber.

Ascent was similar to Haven in that XSET was dominant on defence. To begin, Cryo and AYRIN had key site holds that earned their team nine consecutive rounds. Despite facing a 9-3 deficit, OpTic reset their mentality and gradually began to win round after round. With the map tied 9-9, XSET called a timeout in an attempt to stop the bleeding and ensure a third map. XSET won the map with a few key rounds, defeating Ascent 13-11 to avoid overtime.

The series’ final map flipped the script between the two teams. This time, Optic took the lead at halftime but quickly relinquished it to XSET. Optic regained composure after a lengthy technical pause and finished strong, stringing together five rounds to defeat Pearl 13-8. Yay maintained his MVP status, this time with a 2.1 K/D at 21 kills and only 10 deaths.

With this loss, XSET will face FunPlus Phoenix in the lower bracket again tomorrow in order to remain in Champions.
