Virtus.pro Knocked Out NIP, Advanced to IEM Final
By: Hypron || Jun 8, 2021
After defeating NIP 2-1 in Group B’s lower bracket final, Virtus.pro has secured the final playoff berth in IEM Summer, setting up a matchup with Vitality in the quarter-finals on Friday at 23:30. The Ninjas started well on Mirage, holding off a late CIS comeback, but ran out of steam as the series progressed, with VP securing Inferno thanks to a remarkable effort from Sanjar “SANJI” Kuliev before the entire team came together to steamroll NIP on Overpass.
NIP began their map selection of Mirage with a 6-2 lead on the T side, but Virtus.pro fought back to win the bulk of the remaining rounds and chip away at their opponent’s lead, with a Timur “buster” Tulepov 3K cutting the deficit to a single round at the midway point.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY! Today our boys are proving everyone that they are the ones who deserve to play in the #IEM Playoffs! 🔥

Fredrik “REZ” scored two kills thanks to great trigger discipline on an A site flank. Sterner and a later molotov inside Palace allowed his teammate to detonate the bomb uninjured, giving them a 12-7 lead. Virtus.pro responded with a string of rounds to tie the game at 14-14, but Hampus “hampus” Poser proved the difference-maker with back-to-back triple kill rounds, including a 1v2 clutch, to close off the 30-round match.
SANJI led his team to a 5-0 start on Inferno before the two teams locked horns in a round exchange that benefited the CIS squad for an 8-3 Terrorist advantage, with two rounds shared to conclude the half. VP wasted no time expanding their lead before a REZ 1v2 clutch started a five-round streak for NIP, but frequent save rounds from Virtus.pro eventually paid off as Jame & co. found the three round victories required to take the series to a third map, with SANJI posting a 1.61 rating at the end of the game.
On Overpass, NIP had absolutely no answers for Virtus.pro’s near-perfect defensive setups, winning only one round in the whole half after being shut down at every turn. The Ninjas were only able to complete three rounds in the second half before Virtus.pro rapidly closed up the map and secured their place in the playoffs.
