Dota 2: Valve Announces, No In-Person Attendance In The International 10

Valve has cancelled in-person audience attendance for The International 10 and will now only allow teams, talent, and essential staff to attend, the company announced today.

Valve confirmed that this decision was made to ensure the “safety of all players, talent, and production staff participating in the event” and that the process of refunding all ticket sales will begin.

“We wanted nothing more than to welcome fans live to the event, but we can no longer do so in a way that allows us to prioritise both audience members and participants’ health and well-being,” Valve said. “Those who purchased tickets will automatically receive a full refund.”

This comes just one day after all ten members of Team Aster, as well as several Invictus Gaming players, tested positive for COVID-19 and implemented self-quarantining measures at their Bucharest, Romania, hotels. Valve stated that the new local COVID restrictions in Bucharest also played a role in this decision.

TI10 was originally scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, but event classification issues with the Swedish government and the Swedish Sports Federation in June caused Valve to postpone the event and relocate it to Bucharest.

The group stage of TI10 is still scheduled to begin on October 7. During that stage of the competition, players typically compete from different areas within a hotel or arena prior to the main event, which is held live on-stage. Valve hasn’t released a full schedule yet, but the company has confirmed that the event will begin on time.
