As Twitch has grown in popularity over the years, a number of creators have been banned from the platform with no explanation. The Amazon-owned company now wants to give those users more clarity and consistency.

The platform unveiled two new products for the community on March 22, 2022. A new portal for submitting and tracking ban appeals is now available, and a new streamlined reporting process will be implemented next week.

Both of these features were developed in an effort to improve safety, as it has been plagued by malicious users over the last year. Here’s what we know about them.

Twitch explained in a blog post that community safety is critical for interacting on the platform — but they rely on the community for assistance. They revealed the simplified appeals portal and improved reporting process in an effort to make working with creators easier.

They went on to explain how a more detailed report allows the team to quickly respond to offending content, prompting them to revamp their reporting process. “Based on your feedback, we’ve developed a tool with a simpler, more intuitive design to assist you in filing a report and getting back to connecting with your community,” they said.

“It includes a new search feature to help you find the exact report reason you’re looking for, as well as tailored menus based on whether you’re reporting live content, VODs, or clips.”

They also revealed the new ban appeals portal, which will be available soon as the new reporting process is implemented. They went on to explain why they decided to create the new portal, emphasising that it was based on feedback from the community.
“We’ve heard that our current system is slow and that it doesn’t provide enough insight into how your current appeal is going or how previous appeals have gone,” they said. This is especially important for creators who make a living by streaming for their communities.”

Twitch has recently changed the process by which streamers can appeal bans and report accounts.
