In the penultimate Flashpoint 3 playoff match before the Regional Major Ranking tournament’s grand final, NIP defeated G2. The team coached by Nemanja “next” Isakovi had earlier in the competition knocked Hampus “hampus” Poser and company down to the lower bracket in a barn burner, but are now out in third place after being reverse swept in the consolidation final by the Swedes on Mirage (12-16), Inferno (16-9) and Dust2 (16-14).

G2 had seemed like a strong prospect for the final with victories over FaZe, Heroic, and NIP in the upper bracket before falling to mousesports, but the Swedes’ vengeance on their upper bracket executioners means they will now face the red-hot mouz on Sunday. The squad headed by Christopher “dexter” Nong will be a formidable opponent for the ninjas, having not dropped a single map in the event, with 2-0 victory over fnatic, BIG, Astralis, and the aforementioned G2.

The series began on Mirage, the site of G2’s map three triumph in their previous series. G2 extends their amazing run on Mirage, defeating the Ninjas 16-12 and taking their map selection, after only losing Mirage once in the competition to FaZe after three overtimes. But NiP responded with a stolen map choice of their own on Inferno, reaching double digits on their CT side before halftime, and shattering G2’s economy with a successful force buy after G2 won the second half pistol. On Inferno, Fredrik ‘REZ’ Sterner, Nicolai ‘device’ Reedtz, and Nicolas ‘Plopski’ Gonzalez Zamora all had over 20 kills.

The series switched to Dust II for the final map, as dev1ce delivered yet another outstanding performance in his maiden NiP event. In fact, it was his greatest KD differential (+14) since joining the Ninjas. Despite his outstanding performance, NiP had to stave off G2’s dramatic comeback, which brought the map to round 30 after behind 14-7. The final round came down to a matter of pixels, with François “AmaNEk” Delaunay’s shot striking a CT backpack rather than the body, allowing dev1ce to change what should have been a four-vs-two for G2 into a three-vs-three, with NiP finally claiming the final round and the map 16-14.

The Ninjas’ debut event couldn’t have started any worse, with the controversy surrounding their first loss against Anonymo forcing the repeat of their third map. NiP have recovered from an abysmal start to the competition by stringing together three consecutive comeback series to advance to the grand final. There, they’ll face a shockingly dominating mousesports squad, which hasn’t dropped a single map during their upper bracket run at Flashpoint 3.
