CSGO: NAVI Defeated G2 to Win PGL Major Stockholm, Created History
By: Hypron || Nov 10, 2021
Natus Vincere(NAVI) defeated G2 Esports 2-0 in the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 grand final. With the victory, Na’Vi completed the event without dropping a single map, a feat never before accomplished in a major.
Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, widely regarded as one of the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players of all time, has won a trophy. S1mple finishes the tournament as the HLTV MVP with a 1.47 HLTV 2.0 rating. Despite having a long list of accomplishments, s1mple had never won a CS:GO major prior to this tournament. With the victory, the Ukrainian solidifies his place as one of the best players to ever play the game.
“A lot of people didn’t believe and made jokes,” s1mple said in the post-game interview. “But we f****** did it. The major is ours. The major is NAVI’s.“

The grand final was perhaps more competitive than analysts and fans had predicted. Map 1 was Ancient, a curveball thrown into the mix by G2 to try to catch the CIS juggernauts off guard. Despite G2’s efforts, Na’Vi won the game 16-11. Nuke, Na’Vi’s choice, was up next. On the map, the CIS squad had a 17-game winning streak. G2 started strong with a 10-5 Counter Terrorist side half, but NAVI came back with a devastating comeback. As the CIS side secured overtime and then double overtime, Nikola “NiKo” Kova had an absolutely disastrous whiff that may have sealed the deal. Finally, the game was won by NAVI , 22-19.
The victory extended NAVI’s Nuke streak to 18 victories and, more importantly, secured the PGL Major trophy.
With a record 2.5 million concurrent viewers, the match was the most watched CS:GO match of all time. It also included a live audience in front of a sold-out Avicii Arena in Stockholm.
After a year of dominance, NAVI’s PGL Major victory is a climax. They became only the third team in history to win the IEM Grand Slam, earning them a cool $1 million in extra cash. They’ve firmly established themselves as the best CS:GO team, with no one else coming close. If they can maintain their momentum, CS:GO may be in for a new “dynasty,” having only recently emerged from the Astralis era, in which the Danes became the most dominant team in the game’s history.
