Mousesports, who entered the tournament as the eighth-highest-ranked team at Flashpoint 3, pulled off a miraculous comeback to defeat NIP in the grand final on Sunday.

Christopher “dexter” Nong’s team began the series with a 16-13 loss on Overpass — the only map they fell in the event — before going on to win convincingly on Nuke (16-6) and Inferno (16-6) respectively (16-9). “There is still so much to do, so much to learn,” the Australian said following a victory that few could have predicted three weeks ago.

Despite the loss in the grand final, NIP finished a good second in their inaugural event with Nicolai “device” Reedtz, which began with a contentious game versus Anonymo. Following the rematch victory, G2 relegated the Swedes to the lower bracket, but they ran the gauntlet to finish ahead of Nikola “NiKo” Kova’s squad, as well as Astralis and Heroic.

At the outset of the series, mousesports took the lead by claiming the CT pistol, going 4-0 on Overpass before an eco B push allowed NIP to take the lead. As mousesports’ double AWP setup failed to produce results, the Swedish-Danish team proceeded on a tear, with NIP finishing the half with a commanding 10-5 advantage. Similarly to the first half, mousesports won the pistol and followups, but NIP outperformed in the rifle rounds to take a 14-8 lead. While ropz encouraged his team to fight back, NIP eventually won the map 16-13.

NIP struggled to match the same level of performance on Nuke, while Dexter’s team maintained their series-best pistol round record. The Australian in-game leader earned two clutches and five multikills as mousesports went up 12-6 after moving to the CT side, putting them in good position to win the map. Mousesports’ defense was excellent, as they staggered NIP’s advances and defeated Nuke 16-6.

The Swedish team’s first pistol round of the grand final didn’t amount to much because it was quickly matched by mousesports’ force purchase, putting them in the lead. As mousesports led 10-5 at halftime, frozen and ropz were thorns in NIP’s side, but a second-round force buy following the switch gave Hampus “hampus” Poser and company saved the day. All hope was lost when NIP bungled an anti-eco round, allowing their opponents to win 16-9.
