The unthinkable happened today in the BLAST Premier Fall Final. Team Liquid, one of the CS:GO teams competing with a “dead roster,” defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-1 in the lower bracket’s first round, eliminating them from the $425,000 tournament.

Liquid players such as Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and Jake “Stewie2K” Yip have publicly stated that the team will undergo a major rebuild for 2022 following their underwhelming performance in the PGL Stockholm Major earlier this month, which culminated in their elimination during the Legends Stage. They hadn’t even practised together since the Major, but they still managed to beat NiP, the home of Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, one of the best players in the world and a PGL Stockholm Major quarterfinalist.

Stewie2K has been heavily chastised by a section of the CS:GO community in recent days following his interview with HLTV ahead of the BLAST Premier Fall Final. The Major champion stated that he disagreed with FalleN’s leadership style and, more importantly, stated that up-and-coming player Michael “Grim” Wince isn’t learning quickly enough and that he could work a lot harder.

“Maybe the interview sounded a little crazy, but I guess it was a little insight on our problems,” Stewie2K said after the game. “We’re still going through failures as a team, but we’re still trying to win, and they got a taste of what Liquid was.”

This victory over NiP is all the more impressive given that Liquid had to complete a reverse sweep. To begin the series, the North Americans were defeated by Inferno (16-13). Instead of giving up, they annihilated the Swedish-Danish team on Mirage (16-4) and won Overpass (16-11) despite trailing 8-7 at the half.

Liquid Vs Heroic

Liquid were eliminated from the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2021 after losing 1-2 to Heroic. Liquid’s veterans proved their worth on LAN with a comeback on Overpass to take an early lead in the series before falling short on Nuke. A classic decider on Inferno concluded the series, with Casper “cadiaN” Mller’s team triumphing.

Heroic finished in the top four in Copenhagen, but before they can advance, they will face a red-hot Astralis in the lower bracket final at 00:00. The winner of the match will have one more chance to advance to the grand finals, as they will face the loser of Natus Vincere vs Vitality in a consolidation match.
