Liquid Outclass FURIA To Win CS_Summit 8

After a month off from official competition, a deflated Liquid entered the Regional Major Ranking event, snatching a win against Bad News Bears and succumbing to Extra Salt in their first group round matches. However, with the club shifting calling duties back to Jake “Stewie2K” from Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Yip, their performance in subsequent matches improved steadily, and their unstable form faded away.

After Liquid won an exciting upper bracket final match against FURIA in which two maps went into double overtime and the decider took all thirty rounds to complete, the stage was set for an exciting best-of-five rematch in the grand final.

It was anything but that, and it was Liquid who took the lead from the start and carried it through to the end, securing Overpass (16-5) and Nuke (16-11) before succumbing on Inferno to a FURIA comeback, only to quickly respond with a devastating 16-5 triumph on Mirage.

Overpass appeared to be a competitive map to start the series as FURIA seized an early lead, pulling ahead 6-3, but their efforts throughout the rest of the map were rewarded with only one further round as Liquid put on a clinic, closing their pick in dominant form.

Stewie2K’s carried that momentum into Nuke, where they put up a tenacious defence for a 9-0 lead before FURIA clawed back into the map for five rounds. However, a pistol win and further conversions propelled Liquid to map point in record time, with the team completing the mission not long after.

Despite Liquid owning a 14-9 lead in the second half, Inferno was the only tight game of the series to go FURIA’s way. Following the side switch, Liquid moved well ahead, but were unable to take the map over the line as FURIA fought back to narrowly survive elimination, edging a win in regulation.

It was a return to routine for Liquid soon after, as they didn’t waste any time in taking a commanding CT side lead on Mirage before quickly bringing the map to a close, 16-5.
