Fortnite: New Feature 'Wild Week' Is Live Now

Fortnite’s got a new update introduced now that’s guaranteed to shake things up every week by changing the balance of the loot pool for a couple of days. The new feature is called “Wild Weeks,” and as the name implies, it’ll see a focus placed on various sections of the game each week to highlight different strategies, weapon styles, and more so that each week is different from the last. The first of those weeks is live now and is heavily focused on guns and things that cause flames.

The official theme of this first Wild Week, which began on May 6th, is “Fighting Fire with Fire.” Since the new feature was introduced and launched on Thursday, each following Thursday will usher in a new Wild Week in which we leave the previous one behind and concentrate on something new. It remains to be seen if the theme will be announced prior to or on the day of the event, as we’ve only received one so far, but players can at the very least expect notifications like the one below from the game’s social media to clue them in on what the emphasis is every week.

Flame Bows and Fireflies will appear more frequently throughout the fire-themed week, and the Flare Gun has been temporarily reintroduced. This week, fire has different effects in general, spreading faster and doing more harm, demonstrating that it isn’t just the weapon and object pools that will change with each Wild Week.

“With their increased availability, Fireflies and Flame Bows will spice up the action, and the Flare Gun from Chapter 2 Season 3 has made a triumphant return! ” Epic Games commented on the new functionality. “It’s never been easier to set enemy buildings on fire, which is appropriate given this week’s Legendary Quest. Furthermore, fire can cause more damage and spread faster than before.”

The Wild Week of Fortnite is scheduled to be live until 10 a.m. on May 13. ET a new event will start at that stage.
