VCT Masters Two Reykjavík culminates with the championship on Sunday’s main grand final following six days full of VALORANT action. Fnatic moved on from the lower bracket with a win over Korea’s NUTURN Gaming today and is going to confront Sentinels in the final match.

Fnatic started another strong start on Bind to start the series, leading 8-4 halfway through. However, both allow and Lakia play skills were a catalyst in which NUTURN got back into the match, while Fnatic continued to miss the typical Derke performance. The Finnish fragger had just come down against Team Liquid in a relatively calm series. Although Fnatic had another calm drawing, he held a possible NUTURN comeback, punishing Korean delayed play and making a map with a tasty Boaster clutch.

Because Fnatic had selected his own map, NUTURN needed to win their own from Ascent merely for the series and the competition to be alive. They responded with six rounds of their own to Fnatic’s first pistol and completed the half leading 8–4. A aggressive Fnatic in the second half of the pistol, NUTURN penalized and NUTURN still took a 13-8 map while the Derke woke up was a pleasant sign to Fnatic.

The series turned to a final map of Haven with a place in the Grand Finals. The map of Haven in NUTURN in Reykjavík was notably awful, losing each time Sharks, V1 and Sentinels by eight or more rounds. They “borrowed,” back against the wall, the composition Sentinels used to exchange for Cypher and Phoenix for Breach and Raze. Lakia produced halfway 17 kills, but after their defensive side NUTURN still trailed 8-4. The last nail in the coffin for the Korean team was to lose another pistol and the following force buy. To finish the series Fnatic ran away on Haven 13-8.

Now that Derke is absent from the top of the scoreboard, today’s Back-to-Back win against Liquid and opener versus NUTURN are all the more amazing. However, the ability of the squad to win without him is an encouraging sign for European fans, and his performances on Ascent and Haven are a strong reminder of how powerful he can be.

The European squad will not just try to defeat for the first time Sentinels, but will also be the first to take a map of the superpower in North America in Reykjavík. With a lethal combination of individual ability and superb teamplay, Sentinels rocked into the grand finales, and opened the way in Iceland, dropping Fnatic to the bottom bracket. Fnatic’s biggest hurdle to yet will be this retrofit in the grand finals.
