Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson joins G2 Esports, replaces Perkz

After being the face of League of Legends European Championship (LEC) team Fnatic for eight years now, bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson has reportedly declined to resume his contract with Fnatic, opting to instead explore offers in free agency.

Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson has informed to Media of his decision to sign for another team on this offseason period,” Fnatic said. “After months of discussions, this marks the result of negotiations in the direction of his new agreement, and the end of his 8 years and nearly six hundred games in the Black and orange jersey.”

Rekkles had a lot of achievement throughout his 8-year tenure with Fnatic. After signing a three-year agreement extension in 2017, he took the org to Europe’s first League of Legends World Championship final since season one in 2018.

Fnatic has reportedly renewed the contract of support Hylissang for another year. The pair was a cornerstone of the team’s overall performance on the 2020 World Championship. After losing to tournament favourites Top Esports withinside the first reverse sweep in World Championship history, the Fnatic team sent back to Europe with a quarterfinal exit.

Europe’s performance at Worlds 2020 came under scrutiny after the region failed to make the finals for the first time in years. Fnatic had a sturdy performance withinside the group stage, however, were unable to make it past the first round of knockout matches.

The Fnatic revealed that despite offering “the largest offer Fnatic has ever made to a player,” Rekkles was determined to seek success elsewhere. Rekkles will reunite with Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winther who defected from Fnatic in 2018 after a 0-3 series loss to Invictus Gaming in the Worlds Finals. G2 was swept in the following year against FunPlus Phoenix on the grand stage.

The changing of the guard in the LEC will now find Rekkles donning G2’s iconic black and red colors in the 2021 campaign.
