Activision’s Call of Duty franchise appears to be making its way to the Nintendo Switch in the near future. In the past, Nintendo has had a long history with the Call of Duty series. Various Call of Duty titles were released for both the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Wii U at some point. However, since the Switch’s release in 2017, Call of Duty has only been available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC hardware. But, according to one insider, this shouldn’t be the case for much longer.

According to a reliable video game insider who goes by the Twitter handle @RalphsValve, Nintendo Switch owners will receive one of the most beloved Call of Duty games ever at some point in the future. That game in question is the remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. When it was first released in 2007, Modern Warfare quickly became one of the series’ most critically acclaimed titles, sparking a mainstream appeal that has lasted ever since.

Activision eventually remastered Modern Warfare for current-gen hardware in 2016, but because the Switch wasn’t available at the time, Nintendo’s platform wasn’t included. Activision may be looking to bring Modern Warfare 2 to Switch after all these years.

One of the reasons for this release could be that Microsoft, which is set to acquire the Call of Duty franchise in the future, has already expressed interest in bringing the property to the Switch. Given that most modern Call of Duty titles are unlikely to run on Nintendo’s platform, it stands to reason that only older instalments of the series will be able to make the transition. Given the continued popularity of Modern Warfare, this entry makes a lot of sense to come to Switch at some point.
