Cloud9 Becomes the 2nd Team to Qualify for Worlds 2021 Qf
By: Hypron || Oct 16, 2021
After a 50-minute slobber-knocker tiebreaker wins over Rogue today, Cloud9 became the second team to qualify for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship knockout stage. At Worlds, the North American representatives made history by defeating a LEC team in a tiebreaker.
The match got off to a slow start, which was broken up by Rogue punishing Perkz’s aggression in the mid lane on LeBlanc. Following that, the two Western teams constantly traded objectives and kill. Rogue made deft moves around the maps, seemingly outmanoeuvring Cloud9 at every turn in the tit-for-tat battle. But the LCS squad managed to keep themselves in the lead with tower and gold advantages.

This constant barrage of blows continued until late in the game when death timers became a factor. Cloud9 was constantly brute-forcing engages in the hopes of expanding their lead, but Rogue cleverly played around them, barely missing their opportunity to punish the LCS team. The North American team finally began to pull away from their opponents at the 47-minute mark, when Perkz found a pick onto Odoamne, allowing his team enough space to secure the Infernal Soul and their second Baron of the game.
After destroying Rogue’s base, Cloud9 decided to capitalise on their advantages and go after the Elder Dragon. In response, Rogue used Larssen’s Realm Warp as a five-man unit in a last-ditch effort to stop them. Vulcan quickly recognised and stopped this play, allowing the rest of his team to follow up and eventually win the fight and the game.
Cloud9 will find out who their quarterfinals opponent will be once the Worlds 2021 group stage ends on Oct. 18.
