Cloud9 appears to be still trying to regain their footing following MSI, allowing other League of Legends teams to move up in the NA standings.
100 Thieves won convincingly against second-place C9, maintaining their fifth-place status while closing in on a tie for fourth with Liquid. While the match appeared to be in C9’s favor, their loss against Golden Guardians yesterday threw the outcome of this game into doubt. 100T took advantage of the Spring Split champions’ weakness, absolutely dominating the Rift from start to finish. C9 couldn’t return in a matter of minutes.

C9 and 100T both lost unexpectedly on the first day of the Summer Split to Golden Guardians and Immortals, two teams that finished last in the Spring standings. While 100T appeared to be considerably stronger today and to have more consistent synergy, C9 appeared to be still battling to establish themselves as the Spring Split champions following their performance at MSI and the loss of Zven to Academy.

C9’s downfall in this game was due to his inability to see. The C9 squad couldn’t get around 100T’s roaming and warding by brush-checking or running right into the fog of war. With all of this vision, Closer took the game into his own hands before 10 minutes, allowing the newcomer Abbedagge to defeat the veteran Perkz despite being relegated to Karma duty for his first game in the LCS. The 100T jungler was able to lock in Xin Zhao, a hotly contested pick that is frequently banned away, making his task much easier—securing three kills for himself inside the first 10 minutes, then going confidently straight into every other fight.

Huhi’s Braum, despite the fact that other meta support champions were not banned, ended up being one of 100T’s most important picks. Huhi’s tankiness and crowd control, combined with Exhaust, helped the rest of his team annihilate all of C9’s meta selections. While he had a few killings of his own, Huhi made it very easy for the FBI to ruin K1ng’s second day on the job.
100T will open the third day of week one of the 2021 LCS Summer Split with a match against Dignitas, who defeated FlyQuest earlier today. C9, on the other hand, will be searching for their first win against Team Liquid.
