Gambit won 2-1 over regional rivals Natus Vincere to finish the DreamHack Master’s Spring 2021 group stage undefeated. After a strong start from Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov’s team on Dust2, the upper-bracket semi-final of Group A went three maps, but the “Black & Yellow” weren’t able to bring the same tenacity on Overpass and Mirage.

Gambit got off to a fast start on Dust2, going up 5-1 on defense, but were unable to capitalize as Natus Vincere picked up the pace on their map pick. Boombl4’s team tied the game at 5-5 before the in-game leader’s quad kill turned around a 2v4 and gave Natus Vincere the lead at halftime. Gambit appeared flat after switching to offense, never threatening s1mple and co., who ran rampart to claim the map, 16-8.

Following a sluggish first map, Ax1Le appeared on Overpass, leading his team to an early 8-2 lead as Terrorists. Natus Vincere had some success with a s1mple – Boombl4 double AWP, but he only got five before moving to offense. The second half of Gambit’s Overpass performance was close to Natus Vincere’s on Dust2 as Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov and company allowed just two goals to their rivals, winning 16-8 with a mixed buy.

A USP-S double from s1mple gave Natus Vincere the lead at the start of the decider, Mirage, but Gambit quickly regained control. Nafany’s ace while clearing out B made the score 4-2 in his team’s favor, and the lead had grown to 11-4 before the turn. As Gambit won the CT gun, it appeared that the game was over (13-4), but Natus Vincere demonstrated tenacity to keep the game alive. Late-round situations continued to favor them, including a 2v5 between Boombl4 and s1mple. Finally, Gambit was able to halt the rally at 16-13, thanks to an inspired sh1ro on the final map.
